MOUNT VERNON — Maria Schwarcz, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at Country Court Nursing Home.

She was born March 20, 1926, in Tiszanagyfalu, Hungary.

Maria was a Holocaust survivor and the matriarch of the family. She worked as an electric motor winder and was a skilled tailor. Maria was an amazing cook and a devoted prayer warrior.
She is survived by her children, Peter (Diana) Streiber of Mount Vernon, Maria (Larry Finkle) Monk of Florida, Sue (Don) Broughton of Michigan and Julius (Sherry) Schwarcz of Danville; 11 grandchildren, Angel (Jay) Maners, Peter (Michelle) Streiber, David (Kateryna) Monk, Debbie (Mack) Piotrowski, Daniel Monk, Dara Monk, Rebekah (David) Anderson, Sarah (Bill) Cilk, Shawn (Jess) Schwarcz, Aaron Cram, Jeno (Dana) Cram; 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter and three on their way.

Maria was preceded in death by her mother, Reti Kovacs; husband, Jeno Schwarcz in 2000; a daughter, Terez Cram in 2001 and a sister, Klari Kovacs.

Friends may call Monday, Oct. 23, from 1-3 p.m., at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Scott Sharpes officiating.
Burial will be Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Johns Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fraser, Michigan.
