MOUNT VERNON — The sales tax in Knox County will increase by 1/2 percent instead of .4 percent after all.

The county commissioners voted Thursday to rescind the resolutions they passed last week to increase the sales tax by a total of .4 percent, then voted to impose the 1/2 percent increase, which was their original plan. It takes two resolutions because the increases come under two sections of the sales tax laws.
