MOUNT VERNON — Betty J. Mason, 87, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon.

She was born March 16, 1930, in Newark, Ohio, to the late John and Hazel (Lescallette) Darling. Betty was a member of the Mulberry St. United Methodist Church. She was active at the Station Break Senior Citizen Center and was well known throughout the Mount Vernon area for her generous and giving heart. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and cooking. But most of all, Betty loved the time she spent with her family and her close group of friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Robert) Yost; her son, Richard (Kimberly) Mason; four grandchildren, Ashley Yost, Kelsey Yost, Brock Mason, Brady Mason; and her brother, William Darling.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Mason; and three sisters, Eileen Jurden, Dorothy Jackson, and Jean Atherton.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Oct. 16, at Friendship Cemetery beginning at 3 p.m. with Rev. Warren Outhwaite officiating.
