MOUNT VERNON — Alva P. Pay, 71, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Oberlin, Ohio, to the late Walker and Anna (Beam) Pay.

Alva was a truck driver and a landscaper. He attended Black River High School in Sullivan, Ohio, before entering the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne, serving his country from 1964 to 1967. Alva was interested in Politics and enjoyed horses. Most of all he loved being around his family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary (Kinter) Pay; his children, Alvie (Nancy) Pay of Mount Vernon, Shawn (Shannon) Pay of Blacklick, Jamie (Heather) Pay of Lexington, Heather (Jason) Bywaters of Fredericktown; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry (Gail) Pay of Sullivan.

Along with his parents, Alva was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence, Paul, Earl and Carl Pay; and sisters, Mary Roberts, Evelyn Hartman, and Julia Ferber.

A celebration of life service will take place at a later date.
