MOUNT VERNON — Carol L. Heindel, 67, of Mount Vernon died Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 2017, at her home. She was born on Oct. 11, 1949, in Mount Vernon to the late Harold L. and Roberta L. (Emery) Burson.

Carol was a foster parent for several counties, having fostered over a hundred children. Her home was always open to any child who was in need. Over the years she was a 4-H advisor, taught Sunday school at Amity United Methodist Church, and served on the MRDD board for 7 years and 10 years on the Mount Vernon Developmental Center Humanization Committee.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Buffy, Gabby, Danie and Miracle Heindel of Mount Vernon; her special nieces and nephews, Cassie (Jamie) Vilfer of Mount Vernon, Jeremy (Debbie) Smith of Mansfield, Justin (Bridget) Smith, Jasmine Smith, Savannah Vilfer, Athena Vilfer, Zachary Barnes, Kymberly Barnes and Alexia Floyd all of Mount Vernon and several additional nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Cathy L. Burson.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Amity Cemetery. Per Carol’s request the family and friends will not be gathering after the committal service for a meal.
