MOUNT VERNON — Of the many milestones in Jim Buchwald’s life, biking 200,000 miles wasn’t one that he really planned.

In fact, it was something he never thought he’d reach; so much so that when he was about to hit 100,000 biked miles, he decided to make something of it.

However, on July 31, at 9:50 a.m., Buchwald rolled the odometer over from 199,999 to 200,000 as he pedaled across the township line at Millwood. Buchwald, family and a few select friends celebrated at the stop point, then went in for a meal at a local diner. The ride started in Gambier.

“I had it all figured out because I know the distance from just about anywhere in Knox County,” Buchwald said. “I was within a few yards.”
