UTICA — Under the bright September sunshine, countless juicy, red apples are ripening amid Knox County apple orchards, making now the perfect time to treat your family to a day of apple picking and an evening of caramel-apple crafting. And that’s exactly what the Poole family decided to do this past weekend!

On Saturday morning, our little caravan of cars, toting my husband, niece, nephew, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and myself, arrived at Utica’s picturesque Legend Hills Orchard & Country Store, 11335 Reynolds Road. Before we began our adventure among the 45 acres of apple trees, owners Richard and Carol Hoar happily greeted us and offered some helpful advice regarding how to pick the perfect apple.
