MOUNT VERNON — Donald P. Weaver, 83, of Mount Vernon, went home to be with Lord, Sept. 14, 2017. He was born on Dec. 16, 1933, in Springfield to Joseph Charles and Beulah (Zinchon) Weaver.

He is survived by three sons: Tim (Andi) Weaver of Florida; Doug (Adriana) Weaver of North Carolina; and Dan (Shirley) Weaver of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Alice and Joanne; and his dear friend and companion, Mary Lawrence. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Weaver in 2005, an infant daughter, and one brother, Butch.

Don retired from Cooper Industries in 1996 and enjoyed his retirement years traveling, and spending time with the grandkids in Ohio, North Carolina and Florida.

Don was also an active 50-year member of Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge #9, where he was the Past Master in 1996. He was President of Baldwin Shrine from 2007-2008. He also held many offices in York Rite and Scottish Rite, was a past Monarch and Treasurer for the Cam Ram Grotto. His love for children prompted him to join the Shriner’s as a “Road Runner”, transporting children and their families to specialty treatment hospitals.

Friends may call at the Lasater Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., where Masonic services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery, near Springfield.

Memorial Contributions may be made to The Shriner’s Burn Hospital.
