CENTERBURG — Gary Lee Smith, 66, of Centerburg, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s in Westerville, Ohio. He was born in Council, Va., on May 6, 1951, to the late Lester and Margaret (Wilson) Smith.

Gary was a member of the American Legion Post 40 in Richwood, Ohio, and the NRA. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, live music, guns, and spending time with his grandchildren. Gary graduated from North Union High School and then joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a Master Welder and worked for American Showa in Sunbury and many other factories. Gary also worked for Kroger and was part of the UFCA local union #1039.

He is survived by his wife, Correl (Hendrickson) Smith; daughters, Jamie Lyn (Bretton) Fletcher, Gerri (Nathaniel) Rutan and Jodi (Nathan) Oberdier; grandchildren, RaeAnn Rutan, Katherine Oberdier, Nathaniel Rutan, Ezekiel Oberdier and Daisy Jean Oberdier; sisters, Ronda Hisle, Debra Virden and Leslie Mack; several nieces and nephews; and his cherished Sis-Aunts and Bruncles from Southwestern Virginia.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Georgia LeeAnn Oberdier.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at 4 p.m., with calling hours from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church; 303 S. Edgewood Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, Pastor Chad Davis officiating.
