HOWARD — Aubrey Chris Keeter, 87, of Howard, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017. He was born on Jan. 19, 1930, in Mary Hill, North Carolina the son of Charles N. and Hilda (Langdale) Keeter. Aubrey graduated from Edenton High School in Chowan County, N.C., and at the age of 17 he enlisted into the United States Army, where he served with the U.S. Occupation forces in Germany.

In 1950, Aubrey transferred to the United States Air Force and served in Germany and Libya during the Korean War. Upon receiving his Honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1953, he garnered employment with the United States Coast Guard and re-enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he retired in 1968 after 20 years of service. For 16 of his 20 years in the military, Aubrey was with the Air Force Security Agency gathering intelligence data as determined by the National Security Agency.

After retiring from the military, Aubrey was employed by Wyle Laboratories, a contractor for NASA Langley Research Center and for 23 years he helped in the designing and maintaining of wind tunnel data acquisition and control systems. In 2002, Aubrey moved to Howard to be closer to family.

Aubrey was a member of the American Legion, NRA, Freedom Through Vigilance Association, The Retired Enlisted Association and Central Christian Church of Mount Vernon. He was a former member of the Northside Christian Church in Yorktown, Va.

He is survived by his wife DeLevia (Priode) Keeter; three children, Melanie (Ken) Springer of Howard, Kenneth (Denise) Keeter of Poquoson, Va. and John Mark Keeter of Louisville, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lewis (Barbara) Keeter of Nakina, N.C.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years and mother of his children, Dolores (Woodley) Keeter; a brother, Norman Keeter; three sisters, Eunice Hughes, Mary Alice Bazemore and Frances Lane.

A graveside service with military honors observed will be held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at 3 p.m. in Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery in Newport News, Va. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date in Mount Vernon and will be announced. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Aubrey Chris Keeter.
