MOUNT VERNON — Meeting in special session on Friday, the Knox County Board of Elections invalidated the petition submitted by Gambier Village Council candidate Evangeline Warren.

Warren’s petition was initially certified as having the correct numbers of valid signatures on Aug. 18, but during the proofing process when the ballots were being printed, it was discovered that Warren had only 46 valid signatures out of the required 50. She was notified of the situation and, by affidavit, did collect and submit two more valid signatures, still short of the required 50. Four of the original signatures were from individuals not registered to vote in Knox County, one was out of Gambier’s jurisdiction, and one was printed and not in cursive.
