MOUNT VERNON — The topic for discussion at Tuesday morning’s Farmers Breakfast was all about cover crops, or crops that are planted following the summer harvest for the purpose of adding nutrition and texture in to the soil.

During the meeting, held in a conference room located at Farm Services Agency, 1025 Harcourt Road, local farmers asked questions and listened to advice regarding cover crops from Morrow County farmer Tom Clark, who has been growing cover crops for 30 years. The group chatted about the benefits of cover crops, where to purchase them, different seeding methods, and what types of insecticides and fertilizers to use with them.
