CENTERBURG — Centerburg farmer Doug Mulpas was elected as the 2017 Oldtime Farming Festival Marshal by the members of the festival.

The 1974 graduate of Centerburg has lived in the area since he was 6 years old. Following graduation, he went to work with his dad at Columbia Gas, then worked at Delaware Bus Co., followed by Flxible. His dad started buying land, which allowed Doug to leave his job to farm full time when he was around 19 or 20. He now farms 1,300 to 1,400 acres in corn, soybeans and some wheat. He said he is “so glad the Lord led me into farming.”

Doug is married to Beth (Burson) from Westerville and they have a large, combined family. It includes son, Ryan Townley, his wife Amber and four children, Austin, Reese, Larkin and Joey; daughter, Rachel Ward, her husband Josh and their son Ethan; son, Shane Mulpas and his daughter Charlee; and daughter Grace Mulpas.

The family enjoys the Oldtime Farming Festival. Grace, a high school sophomore, enters the photo contest; Austin competes in the arm wrestling tournament; Austin, Reese and Larkin like the Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull and the Bubble Gum Bubble Blowing Blowout; and Charlee enjoys the Cake Walk.
