Golf invitational marks start of K-MAC play

MOUNT VERNON — When high school golfers tee off at Irish Hills for the Highland Invitational on Friday, it will be the beginning of a new era in local sports.

The event will be the first ever to feature teams in the newly-formed Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference. The new conference consists of seven schools from the Blue Division of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference — Cardington, Centerburg, East Knox, Fredericktown, Highland, Mount Gilead and Northmor — along with Danville, which departed from the Mid-Buckeye Conference.

“It’s going to really turn out well,” said Rich Porter, Centerburg athletic director. “From a transportation perspective, all the schools are really close. And size-wise, they’re all competitive.”
