MOUNT VERNON — After nearly a week of being closed, Jake’s is expected to reopen on Monday.

According to owner Tim DeRodes, an issue with the restaurant’s main drain was the culprit behind some poor evaluations with the Knox County Health Department.

“There was a broken pipe and it all backed up on us,” DeRodes told the News Friday afternoon. “We had to tear up the whole back kitchen to replace pipes and joints.”

According to Terri Hillier, sanitarian with the health department, inspections showed “gray” or dirty water on the kitchen floor in the Coshocton Avenue restaurant. During a re-inspection Monday, it became apparent the water buildup was because of broken or clogged plumbing.
