Fred Main/News Ariel’s Landon Spearman, back center, is congratulated by his teammates after the first of his two home runs in the Mount Vernon Little League City Tournament championship game Sunday at Phillips Park. Spearman’s two home runs helped Ariel capture the title with a 12-0 victory over Modern Builders.

MOUNT VERNON — The game of baseball is a simple game — you throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball.

If you can do all three of those things well, you’ve got a chance to be successful.

In the championship game of the Mount Vernon Baseball League Major League City Tournament, Ariel Corp. did just that. They got good pitching, good defense and good hitting to roll to a 12-0 victory over Modern Builders and claim the city championship.

“Everybody hit the ball well tonight. We made the plays on defense and we didn’t walk anybody,” said Ariel manager Jordan Spearman. “12-0, you can’t really complain about anything. It was just a great game.”
