MOUNT VERNON — For the first time in over 140 years, commercial brewing returns to Mount Vernon in the form of Stein Brewing Company Restaurant & Taproom. SBC will be opening its doors and begin brewing its beer on-site late fall 2017 in the newly renovated Woodward Building in downtown Mount Vernon. The historic downtown location will feature a brewery, a full-service restaurant, and a taproom.

Founder David Stein is very excited to bring his unique experience in hospitality to life in downtown Mount Vernon.

“I have had a vision of a tremendously unique style of brewery restaurant for some time,” Stein said. “I have worked very hard trying to find a site and the Woodward building presented itself as an ideal spot. The look and feel of what I wanted to bring to Mount Vernon really fits the up and coming downtown area. Mount Vernon deserves to have high-quality places to go out for a meal and a refreshing drink. I am very excited to bring my brewery and restaurant to Mount Vernon.”

Stein Brewing Company has its eyes on a mid-autumn opening.

“We are putting the finishing touches on our menu and I have hired a tremendous chef, Erin Stevens, to create this for me and the folks of Mount Vernon. We have all the brewing equipment ordered and hope to begin brewing late August or early September to prepare for the opening of SBC,” said Stein.

The plan is to have classic American Brew Pub fare featuring smoked burgers, smoked chicken wings, and an assortment of classic and unique specialties as well. There will be over six locally brewed drafts on tap, a few seasonal brews, as well as great drafts from other local Ohio craft beer brewers.

“It has been over 140 years since brewing took place in Knox County and we intend to brew beer folks in Mount Vernon will not only be proud of but also truly enjoy. We look forward to everyone in town ‘loving local’ the way we do,” Stein said.
