MOUNT VERNON — Twenty bicycle riders rolled into Mount Vernon Monday, two weeks into a trip from New York City to San Francisco. All of them have Type 1 diabetes and they represent five countries and 14 states.

They’re raising money for the Beyond Type 1 Foundation, which advocates and educates about Type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication of undiagnosed Type 1 that can cause death, said Dana Howe with the foundation.
