LEXINGTON — Elmer K. Schmidt, 88, of Lexington, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Lexington Court Nursing Home in Lexington. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 21, 1928, to the Late Elmer and Catherine Schmidt. Elmer served in the U.S. Navy from October 1945 to June 1949.

He is survived by his children, Mike Schmidt of Grove City, and a daughter, Sherry Connor of Lexington; six grandchildren, Mike Jr (Marci) Schmidt, Amy (Jonathan) Craft, Cory Rhea, April Rhea, Cassady Connor and Katie Connor and 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, Darcella (Mike) Looney and Nancy Trapp; his nephews, Robbie (Penny) Schmidt and Mark Casa; and his great nephews, Shawn (Lisa) Schmidt, Bobby (Lainey) Schmidt and Brad (Amanda) Schmidt.

In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae Schmidt in October 2007. They were married for 58 years. His brother, Robert Schmidt; three sisters, Deloris, Helen and Marie. He was especially fond of caring for the family dog Midas.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 21, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Roger Tickle officiating, burial to follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
