MOUNT VERNON — E. Joan Claggett, 84, of Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 17, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Feb. 13, 1933, in Gambier, and was the daughter to the late Otis and Ruth (Ulery) Johnson.

Joan was a member of the Perry Chapel Baptist Church, Wakatomika Garden Club and the quilting and sewing club. Her servant’s heart was daily displayed by providing her family with homemade meals, sewing quilts for family members and by helping her husband on their dairy farm.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, James Raymond Claggett; her three children, Judy (Paul) Phillips of Mount Vernon, Bonnie (Brian) Van Winkle of Mount Vernon and Dennis (Jessica) Claggett of Bladensburg; her grandchildren, Shawn (Lyn) Phillips, Barry (Katie) Phillips, Olivia (Zack) Beougher, Kaylee Van Winkle, Devin Claggett, Jesse Wolford, Jasmine Smith; great-grandchildren, Landon, Carter, Brodie, Brianna, Zachariah, Nicholas, Levi, Amelia; along with her loving caregiver, Tonya McBride.

Joan will always be remembered as a devoted, faithful, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, at 2 p.m., at Bladensburg Church of God with Pastors Matt Swartz and Dave Fowls officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until time of services on Wednesday. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery in Gambier.
