MOUNT VERNON — After a slow start Memorial Day weekend, attendance at Hiawatha Water Park jumped along with the heat.

Recreation Director and Assistant Pool Manager Jerry Clinger reported that attendance on June 10, 11 and 12 was more than 4,000, with 1,583 people coming through the gate on Monday, June 12.

“The first two weeks were spotty,” he said, “With temperatures only in the 70s.”

He also reported the first session of swim lessons is winding up, but there are still openings in the next two sessions.
