MOUNT VERNON — It’s hard to sum up exactly how valuable Cade Finnell was to the East Knox Bulldogs this past season.

Finnell was successful with his bat. He was successful as a fielder. And, when they needed an ace on the mound, he was that, too.

Finnell’s all-around performance in leading the Bulldogs to their first ever Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championship earned him the 2017 All-Area Baseball Player of the Year.

Equally hot on the mound was Tim Zeller, Mount Vernon’s ace who developed into the go-to guy when the team needed a win. Zeller was named All-Area Baseball Pitcher of the Year.

Finnell led the Bulldogs in many offensive categories, including batting average (.463), slugging (.701), RBIs (29) and triples (six). As a pitcher, Finnell was even more valuable, accumulating a 7-0 record in the regular season with a 1.20 ERA. He led East Knox with 62 strikeouts.
