MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis was hoping his City Finance Study Group would give a recommendation to City Council to request a 1/2 percent income tax increase on the November ballot. What he got from Monday’s meeting was an unexpected option.
Because an income tax increase would only affect those who work in the city, it was suggested the city find a way to “evenly spread the peanut butter” across all city residents.
