MOUNT VERNON — Dale E. Metzger, 71, of Mount Vernon, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 8, 2017, at his home.

He was born Sept. 6, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Charles H. and Bernice G. (Saunders) Metzger.

Dale was a 1964 graduate of Big Walnut High School and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for 36 years at Timken Roller Bearing, retiring in 2000.

As a youngster, he was active in 4-H and FFA. This was where he developed his love of horses and over the years he had as many as 20 at one time. Stinger and Fire were a couple of his favorites.

When he wasn’t taking care of his horses, he was looking out for his family; always taking care of them.

He will be missed by his sister, Dianne L. Harris of Bartow, Florida; brother, Darrell C. Metzger; close friends and neighbors, Lee (Cathy) Henthorn and Terry Tharp; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel and his sister-in-law, Jean.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12, at 2 p.m., the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from noon until the time of service.

The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home of Sunbury is honored to serve Dale’s family. Special memories and condolences can be expressed to them at www.snyderfuneralhomes.
