CENTERBURG — The USA Days Festival in Centerburg is coming soon. Centerburg is known as the “Heart of Ohio” due to being the geographical center of the state. Easy to find, the festival will be held at the Memorial Park on the corner of state routes 3/36 and 314. The website, heartofohiousa.com, has complete directions. The best thing is that both admission and parking are free of charge. The midway opens at 5 p.m. daily from Wednesday through Friday and at noon on Saturday. The dates are June 21-24.
The event will have both adult and kiddie rides, midway, games and foods. Big O Amusements from Cardington is the amusements provider. There are also food vendors and craft vendors for your enjoyment as well.
Wednesday night’s church night will begin at 6 p.m. and for the first time will be followed at 7:30 by singing group “The Music Men of London” who sing barbershop harmony to pop songs.
Thursday night will have Mount Vernon group “King Darwin” with hard rock at 6 p.m. The Little Miss Liberty and Little Uncle Sammy pageant will be at 7:30 p.m. and following will be the band, “Classic Rock Experience,” who sings arena rock songs by groups such as Styx, Journey, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Deep Purple and Grand Funk, to name a few.
Friday night will have not one, but two oldies groups. At 6 p.m., “The Shades of Blue” will draw you in with their talented vocals including their hit “Oh How Happy.” At 7:30 p.m., the annual guitar auction will be done, with the high bidder getting the guitar autographed by all of the groups. Steve Jagger of Auction Ohio will do the honors. At 8 p.m., the classic group “The Marcels” will give you a great show with their talented vocals including “Blue Moon,” famous for that low, low bass note on the end. Original member Walt Maddox will also delight you with his tribute to the late, great Nat King Cole.
On both Friday and Saturday live monkeys will be on hand to make both young and old smile. They will also pose for pictures with you as well as perform tricks.
Saturday’s big parade is at 11 a.m., with the theme “Recognizing Local Businesses.” Grand Marshall of the parade is bakery owner Kristy Layman. Following the parade, the annual flag raising will be held with the Centerburg High School Band providing a patriotic concert. At 1 p.m. will be a “twirlathon.”
At 5 p.m., magician Dave Lehman will perform, followed by the annual Toddler Track meet for cash prizes.
At 6:30 p.m., will be the fourth annual karaoke contest finale with six very talented finalists singing two songs each for over $1,000 in prize money. At 8 p.m., will be popular area band, the Kokosing River Surf Club with music from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s.
The best fireworks display in the area will close out the four-day event with a spectacular finale at 10 p.m.
