MOUNT VERNON — A 39-year-old man has been identified as the Knox County Jail inmate who died Saturday.
Warren B. Taylor, 39, Mount Vernon, was pronounced dead at Knox Community Hospital at 2:32 p.m. after being found unresponsive in a dorm area of the county jail, Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer said.

Shaffer, writing in a press release Monday, said officers were alerted at 1:42 p.m. Saturday “that an inmate was down in one of the dorm areas.” CPR was initiated at the jail, Shaffer writes. Mount Vernon EMS personnel took over CPR from jail staff, MVFD Chief Chad Christopher said.

Knox County Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle said Monday an autopsy was being conducted.

According to court records, Taylor was awaiting sentencing after he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drugs May 19 in Knox County Common Pleas Court. The charge stemmed from Feb. 17, when Taylor was found to be in possession of methamphetamines. A second charge of possession of heroin, also from Feb. 17, was dismissed.

Taylor indicated at the plea hearing that he was drug dependent, according to court records.
The death remains under investigation, Shaffer said.
