MOUNT VERNON — First Fridays always has plenty of good food, but June’s edition had free cake.

The Knox County Red Cross Chapter officially turned 100 on June 2. On that date in 1917, the United States Congress approved the chapter.

Buckeye Region Red Cross Philanthropy Officer Jeff Redfield helped pass out the cake, as well as promote a Red Cross five-year initiative to reduce fire-related fatalities through the installation of free smoke detectors.
