AKRON — Lucas batter Frankie Depue swung and missed a slow changeup, then turned to her coach and shrugged.

She was out of ideas.

No one was going to touch Danville pitcher Shanna Mickley on this day.

Mickley threw a five-inning four-hit shutout while knocking in three runs from the plate on a home run and a double to lead the Blue Devils to an 11-0 victory, clinching their second ever appearance in the Division IV state championship game.

“I’m really proud of these girls,” Danville coach Jill Lyons said. “We came out knowing what to expect. We’ve had a vision and a goal all year long, and they came out and got the job done.”
