MOUNT VERNON — East Elementary second-graders got to “visit” 10 foreign countries recently thanks to students in Christine Keaton’s Contemporary Reading class at Mount Vernon High School.

Operating on the premise that “books bring you the world,” each of the high-schoolers read a contemporary novel set in another country. Keaton then challenged them to research a children’s book set in another country and to think up ways to make that country come alive for pupils in second grade.
