MOUNT VERNON — Entering the Pavilion Sports and Event Complex at 741 Fairgrounds Road, the doors open to a cavernous, arena-like space that encompasses the size of three full basketball courts. The ceiling reaches upward 32 feet and the gym itself is 32,000 square feet for basketball and an array of other sports like volleyball, softball, baseball and soccer teams for when they need a facility to practice in.

The facility will be open as teams, leagues, coaches and event organizers fill time slots throughout the year for sports activities. For the first half of the year, from April through September, the facility will have two basketball courts and four volleyball courts to be used for court based athletics. From October to March, the facility will be turfed to accommodate sports like baseball and soccer.
