MOUNT VERNON — Pauline Griffith, 96, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Brookdale of Mount Vernon.

She was born on Feb. 7, 1921, in Buchanan County, Virginia, the daughter of Ferd and Nannie (Presley) Hubbard. Pauline retired in 1988 after 27 years of employment as a licensed practical nurse supervisor for the Mount Vernon Developmental Center. In her free time, Pauline enjoyed fishing, camping and playing Bingo with family and friends. She was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church.

Pauline married the love of her life, Garland Griffith, on Sept. 24, 1938, at the Baptist parsonage in Sunbury, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1989.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Griffith and Glenn Griffith, both of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Piar of Danville and Linda Mills of Mount Vernon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Cecil Hubbard of Mount Vernon; four sisters, Beulah DeBoard of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Betty Harris of Springfield, Ohio, Kathleen Sparks of Delaware, Ohio and Marjorie (Larry) Bowen of Galena, Ohio.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Griffith Jr.; a brother, Earl Hubbard; son-in-law, Howard Mills; two sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Mr. David Dahlstein will be officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.

Memorial contributions in Pauline’s name may be made to the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, 15271 Vance Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
