MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon High School Latin instructor Mary Jo Behrensmeyer is proud to announce the winners of the awards for the 2017 National Latin Exam, which recognized the top 1 percent of Latin students in the world.

• Gold medal, summa cum laude — Owen Decatur, Jacob Lebold, Josephine Noonan, Greg Gillen (he missed a perfect by one question) and Sean Nestor.

•Silver medal, maxima cum laude — Mehmet Ali Schubel, Colton Fields, Amanda Miglin, Zachary Ballenger, Lincoln Schaaf and Ethan Buehrer.

•Magna cum laude — Jason Lamoure, Taylor McCann, Logan Meyer, Richard Baer and Maggie Nussbaum.

•Cum laude — Alexis Oliver, Amanda Walton, Bradyn Burke, Matthew Bien, Corrick Croswell, Zoe Goldner, John Brenneman, Charles Mayville, Madison Brokaw, Jonathan Crow, Arya Anak-Agung, Nathanael Cook, Conrad Stein and Hope Straight.
