MOUNT VERNON — Mmm, bacon. It’s a tasty, classic food that’s loved by nearly every American. In years past, bacon had been favored in this country primarily as a breakfast meat. But, over the last few decades, bacon’s popularity has steadily increased and expanded outside the reins of breakfast. In restaurants, dishes like bacon cheeseburgers and Cobb salads had become beloved and common-place lunch and dinner items.
In recent years, the American “bacon mania” has reached new heights: Its crispy, salty deliciousness can now be found with steaks, nachos, pizzas, soups, popcorn, donuts and, yes, even desserts, like ice cream, cookies, cakes and brownies.
