MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man and an alleged co-defendant were indicted Monday by the grand jury on drug trafficking charges.
John T. Miller, 19, is charged in a grand jury indictment with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and two counts of trafficking in drugs. Gerri A. Hampton, 54, Pataskala, is charged with two counts of complicity to trafficking in drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from a traffic stop Feb. 26. Knox County Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville said Miller was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Hampton where substances believed to be methamphetamines and cocaine were observed lying on the floor on the passenger side. Miller was further found to have a loaded pistol in his pocket and $520 in cash, McConville said.
McConville said he will seek forfeiture of the cash, as allegedly being the proceeds of drug trafficking.
Hampton had a glass smoking pipe in her possession at the time, according to the indictment.
Miller is charged under the trafficking in drugs statute because the drugs allegedly in his possession were prepared for sale, McConville said. McConville said “the lab work” on the alleged drugs is pending, and the substances were not field tested.
