MOUNT VERNON — Floyd Theodore Swanson, 85, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at his residence. He was born March 13, 1931, in Benson, Minn., to the late Gustafson and Martha (Matheson) Swanson.

Floyd graduated from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, Minn. He has been a successful businessman in Mount Vernon for over 50 years. Floyd loved to meet his friends at the Southside Diner for food and social time. His greatest enjoyment was playing softball and visiting the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Floyd was a member of the North Knoxville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Knoxville, Tenn. His belief and great hope were in the return of Jesus.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Patricia (Hickman) Swanson; son, Rowan Swanson of Ohio; daughters, Dawn Swanson of Washington, Cheri Emery of Oregon; stepson, Chris (Lisa) Stokes of California; step-daughter, Cheryl Haggerty of California; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Merv (Carol) Swanson of Minnesota.

Besides his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Denea Swanson; brothers, Robert Swanson and Elmer Swanson; and sisters, Ethel Flowers and Vera Preble.

It was Floyd’s request that in place of a memorial service, memorial contributions be made to The Building Fund the North Knoxville SDA Church, 6530 Fountain City Road, Knoxville, TN 37918.
