MOUNT VERNON — A two-part ramp reconstruction project at the Knox County Airport got wings Monday night as funding for the $902,646 undertaking was solidified.

Area A of the project will include 3,735 square yards of ramp space in front of the airport terminal, which comes with an estimated price tag of $569,313. The majority of the funds will be provided by the Federal Aviation Administration while the local cost, under 12 percent of the total, will be absorbed by contributions from the City of Mount Vernon and Knox County Board of Commissioners, $12,620 each; a $32,260 grant from the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County; and $32,260 from Ariel Corp.
