MOUNT VERNON — A Howard attorney with 42 years of experience will be settling into his new role as Knox County Public Defender starting Jan. 30.

Attorney John S. Pyle will replace Public Defender Bruce Malek, who is leaving the office for purposes of retirement.

Pyle’s salary and permanent office location have yet to be finalized, William Kepko, president of the Knox County Public Defender Commission, said. The office will be designed to meet new requirements from the Ohio Public Defender’s office which seek to elevate the pay and facilities for public defenders to the level of county prosecuting attorneys.
