MOUNT VERNON — NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Knox Licking County Ohio announces the offering of the NAMI signature education program Family to Family. Registrations are now being taken for classes that will be offered both in Knox and Licking counties beginning March 6.

Family to Family is a free 12-week program designed for families, partners, or friends of an individual who has been diagnosed with a disorder such as depression, bipolar, or schizophrenia and other related diseases. The curriculum addresses self-care, problem solving, communication techniques, and empathy. The biology of the brain, medications, recovery, and rehabilitation are also explored in this excellent life changing experience.

Classes are 2 1/2 hours long. The Licking County Class will meet at The Main Place, 112 S. Third St., in Newark; the Mount Vernon class will meet at The Main Place, 117 W. High St., Mount Vernon.

In addition, NAMI KLCO sponsors three support groups:

•A peer group meets at the Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay St., Mount Vernon, first and third Thursday, 7-8:30 p.m., and on the second and fourth Thursdays (facilitated by Kenyon College students) at the NAMI KLCO office, 15 E. Vine St., Front.

•The NAMI Connection meets at The Main Place, 117 W. High St., Mount Vernon, every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

•A Family to Family support group meets the second Tuesday, 7-8:30 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon.

All are free, no registration is required. NAMI KLCO is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit mental health, support, and advocacy agency. Office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located at 15 E. Vine Street Front, Mount Vernon. Visitors are welcome to come in to browse our library of helpful information, fact sheets and handouts, and view helpful videos.
