MOUNT VERNON — Every week, Mount Vernon’s opponents get bigger and bigger, so it seems.

Ashland has three players listed at 6-foot-4 or taller on its boys basketball team. Mount Vernon’s tallest player is 6-1. Despite that, the Yellow Jackets were only barely outrebounded by the taller Arrows — and barely outscored as well — in their 48-44 defeat at The Hive on Tuesday.

“It’s such a fine line against a team like that,” Mount Vernon coach Mike Kerr said. “We have to do all the little things. And we did. We had our chances. They just made a couple more plays than us. Sometimes, that’s what it comes down to.”

Mount Vernon fell to 4-4 in Ohio Cardinal Conference play with the loss. Ashland is now 6-2.
