MOUNT VERNON — Kimberly S. Riffle, 53, of Mount Vernon, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior unexpectedly Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2017. She was born Aug. 20, 1963, in Davenport, Iowa, to the late Vernon and Eva (Elmore) Engel.
Kim graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1981 and was a Licensed Cosmetologist from 1982 to 1985. In 1992, Kim graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She went to work for MNVU in 1993 as an assistant librarian and worked there until her sons were born in 2001 and then she became a stay at home mom. Kim was a very active member of the First Church of Nazarene in Mount Vernon where she helped with the funeral dinners, the music department and the Women’s ministry to list a few.
Kim is survived by her loving family, her husband of over 18 years, Dr. Douglas W. Riffle; her twin sons, Samuel D. and Spencer D. Riffle of Mount Vernon; a sister, Shelly (Bill) Dildine of Rock Island, IL; mother-in-law, Vivian Riffle of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Denise E. Riffle of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Dr. Dana C. (Nita) Riffle of Mount Vernon; and nieces and nephews, Sara, Danae, Darcie, Daylana, Kyle, Dustin and Dylan.
In addition to her parents, Kim was preceded in death by her brother, Ron Engel; father-in-law, Dr. Denver E. Riffle; and a sister-in-law, Susan Riffle.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., on Thursday, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 807 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon. The family will then receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service celebrating the life of Kim at 11 a.m. on Friday at the church with Rev. Russ Gumm officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the Jacksontown Cemetery near Newark.
