MOUNT VERNON — After 40 years in public office, including 25 years as Common Pleas judge, Otho Eyster is retiring. As a last act Thursday, he swore-in county elected officials taking office in the coming year, including his successor on the bench, Richard Wetzel.

Eyster declined the opportunity to do an “exit interview” and talk about his career, but said after the brief ceremony, “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ve never been retired before.”

He did say he doesn’t plan to serve as a visiting judge.
