MOUNT VERNON — Eleanor L. Laymon, 94, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Brookdale of Mount Vernon surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Knox County, the daughter of Roy and Vennice (Snyder) Durbin. Eleanor was a 1940 graduate of Gambier High School. After graduating she moved with her husband to Newark where she worked for Licking Laundry and upon retirement they moved back to Gambier. Eleanor was a member of the Grove Church of Christ.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Magers of Howard, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Laymon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester (Betty) Durbin, Ronald (Pauline) Durbin, Dale (Lela) Durbin, Thelma (Chester) Taylor, Dessie (Carl) Shaffer, Harold Magers, Donald (Waneta Faye) Laymon, Paul Laymon and Gladys (Les) Hillier. She was also preceded in death by nieces and nephews, Larry Durbin, Ronald Durbin Jr., Michael Durbin, Richard Taylor, Frank Shaffer, Gary Shaffer, Joseph Laymon and Christine Ann Egan.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at 2 p.m., in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier. Mr. David Dahlstein will be officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Eleanor L. Laymon.
