MOUNT VERNON — Alexa Skal can’t really explain how she gets so many assists.

She just knows when her teammates are open, and she gets the ball there.

“I don’t care who scores,” Skal said. “My teammates do a good job of getting open, and I just pass it there.”

The Mount Vernon senior found open teammates for scores seven times — including on one amazing behind-the-back pass — to lead the Yellow Jackets to their third consecutive Colonial Classic championship, 62-48, over Danville. For her efforts, Skal was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.
