MOUNT VERNON — The need for residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities is acute and efforts are underway to provide a facility locally.

The Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center has been an outpatient facility, providing advanced care while the patient continues to live at home and in their community. However, sometimes the greater intensity of a residential treatment facility is called for.

The immediate goal, said Freedom Center Executive Director Jeff Williams, “is to establish a 16-bed residential addiction facility to initially serve women in Knox County.”

A residential treatment facility for men could come later.
