MOUNT VERNON — Fifty years ago, a young Danville woman decided to try to send a special Christmas present to her fiancé in Vietnam.

Priscilla Brown had asked her fiancé, Sgt. Larry R. Arnholt of Loudonville, what he most wanted for Christmas.

“All I want is some Ohio snow,” he replied.

The Mount Vernon News reported on Dec. 28, 1966, that Brown had scooped up a bunch of snow during the last snowfall in Danville, and put it in the family freezer. She then went on a search for a big Styrofoam cooler and dry ice. She found a cooler in Mansfield and 48 pounds of dry ice were supplied by a Mansfield dairy company.
