UTICA — The revitalization of downtown Utica is expected to be of top priority for Utica Village Council in 2017. While potential plans are being explored with the architectural firm The Montrose Group, a Downtown Redevelopment District is also being formed to secure tax money which will provide funding for special project within the DRD.
Utica Mayor Lester Grennell told the News that a meeting will take place Jan. 9, 2017, with the street committee to discuss forming the DRD and finalizing a map of what locations will be included in the DRD. A first reading for an ordinance for the creation of the DRD should appear on the Jan. 16, 2017, agenda of village council. Potential projects will be contingent on how much money can be generated.
