MOUNT VERNON — John W. Carpenter, 60, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at his home.
He was born Aug. 13, 1956, in Mount Vernon, to the late Marion and Mary Lou (Fletcher) Carpenter.

John had worked for the Mount Vernon News for 38 years and was a member of the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing. John looked forward every year to his fishing trip to Michigan for salmon.

He is survived by his two sons, Kevin (Belinda) Carpenter and Robert (Marion) Carpenter both of Mount Vernon; sisters, Roxanna Glancy, Linda (Bob) VanRiper and Karen Carpenter; grandchildren, Charles, Caleb and Savannah Carpenter; along with step-grandchildren, Kayla Scanlon and Joseph Sheets.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Sue Carpenter.

Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. Where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
