MOUNT VERNON — Waneda S. Hunter, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home. She was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Fredericktown, the daughter of Clyde and Sylvia (Rinehart) Singer. Waneda was an active member of the Brandon United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served as treasurer.

Waneda was a 28 year member of the Clinton Grange and also belonged to the Good Sam Club where she cherished many memories. She took pride in her vegetable and flower gardens and was known as an excellent cook. If Waneda was in the kitchen, there was always an extra seat at the table for anyone that came to visit. In 1985, she and her late husband, Chase Hunter Jr. received the Distinguished Service to Cooperatives Award.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Rob) Kuhlman of Mount Vernon; a son, John (Michele) Hunter of Delaware; seven grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Tim, Joel, Jeremy, Chase and Tamara; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Waneda was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Chase Hunter Jr.; and two sons, Daniel Hunter and David Hunter.

Friends may call Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Brandon United Methodist Church, 13492 Sycamore Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Pastor John Idoine will be officiating. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
