MOUNT VERNON — Mary L. Lang, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Grant Hospital in Columbus.
She was born June 28, 1960, in Mount Vernon, to Theodore and Nancy Shafer
On May 24, 1980, she married Richard Lang of Mount Vernon.
Mary attended St. Vincent grade school and graduated from Mount Vernon High School. She moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, right after graduation for a brief period but moved back to Mount Vernon and raised her family. She was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church.
First and foremost, Mary was devoted to family. She loved her grandchildren. Even though her family was large she strived to keep it all together. There was never an occasion throughout any year that family members did not get a card from her. She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and whoever anyone else needed.
She spent the past 20 years working at the Kenyon bookstore, recently serving as a buyer. Mary loved working at Kenyon. It was her second family. She knew the professors, their families, the students and many others at the college. She would help the students when life became difficult for them. Kenyon provided Mary with a wonderful career where she could use her kindness, her work ethic, her sense of humor, her passion for the job and her concern about others to truly make a difference in the lives of many people. That was what Mary Lang was truly about.
Preceded in death by her father, Theodore Shafer, she is survived by her husband, Richard Lang; sons, Danny (Amber), Josh, Jed, Calib, Isaac and Austin; mother, Nancy Shafer; brothers, Jim of Lake Oswego, Ore., Tom (Sheree) of Perrysburg, Ohio, Joe of Canfield, Ore., Mike of Martinsburg, Ohio and Tim (Jorge) of Columbus; granddaughters, Taylor, Sydnee and Xaria; grandsons, Dillon, Wyatt, Mason, Miles, Eli, Connor, Dalton, Bransyn and Jaxon Neil. In addition, there were many nieces and nephews who she loved.
A memorial reception will take place at a later date to be announced. The Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the arrangements for the Mary L. Lang family.
