MOUNT VERNON — H. “Bruce” Walters, 86, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus with his family by his side. He was born June 1, 1930, in New Bethlehem, Pa., to the late Homer and Margaret Walters.

Bruce loved being a father and grandfather to his family. He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and was extremely passionate about working with Habitat for Humanity. Overall Bruce was an upbeat person who loved to dance and listen to gospel and big band music. He was also a member of the Mount Vernon Moose Lodge 1640.

He is survived by his wife, Dory Purdy; daughter, Kim S. (Ed) Ridgeway of Heath; a son, Denny Albitus of Jonesboro, Georgia; six grandchildren, Jerrod (Kambra Runyon) Ridgeway, Kylie Ridgeway, Madison Ridgway, Ben Ridgeway, Abbey Albitus and Nick Albitus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Walters; a brother, Bud Hammond; and sister, Lillian Walters.

No calling hours or services will be observed.

The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth St., Newark, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bruce’s name to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709-3498.
